ABSTRACT

We present a brief overview of how laparoscopy evolved from a purely diagnostic to a therapeutic procedure. Emphasis is given to the many innovative developments that led to its application to correct pelvic floor dysfunction with its range of anterior, apical and posterior defects. It may serve to reflect on how current methods and techniques can still be improved to deal with pelvic problems that are likely to become more prevalent as our population ages.
